US Navy Transfers Research Vessel to Philippine Navy

SAN DIEGO (April 27, 2016) - Vice Adm. Nora Tyson, left, commander of U.S. 3rd Fleet, and Leo Herrera-Lim, Philippine Consul General in Los Angeles, sign documents transferring ownership of the research vessel (R/V) Melville to the Philippine Navy during a ceremony at Naval Base, where it was commissioned as BRP Gregorio Velasquez (AGR 702). The ship was transferred under the U.S. Department of Defense's excess defense articles program to help augment the Republic of the Philippines oceanographic research and study capabilities.

USS Momsen, the Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) and  the guided-missile destroyer USS Decatur (DDG 73) are part of the Pacific Surface Action Group comprised of more than 800 Sailors, on mission to conduct routine patrols, maritime security operations and theater security cooperation activities to enhance Western Pacific regional security and stability. AH-64D Apaches Arrive on Oahu

HONOLULU, Hawaii (April 24, 2016) - AH-64D Apache helicopters with the 2-6 Cavalry Squadron, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade fly from Pier 1 in Honolulu to their new home at Wheeler Army Airfield.  The Apaches are replacing the older OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopters enhancing the modernized, ready, and tailored aviation force as the U.S. Army's most capable and survivable combat proven aircraft.

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan (April 27, 2016) - Airmen from the 35th Medical Group (MDG) tend to two personnel simulating injuries during an emergency management exercise.  Aftershocks following a simulated 8.2 magnitude earthquake forced the 35 MDG to hold injured personnel in their expansion bay to be air-evacuated to another base for care.

SINGAPORE (Apr. 21, 2016) – LS1 Joseph Lejos (right), Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Yokosuka, Site Singapore (FLC), supervises the delivery of supply items to ships belonging to the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Carrier Strike Group Apr. 21, 2016. Navy Region Center Singapore (NRCS) welcomed Sailors from the strike group during a port visit in Sembawang, Singapore, April 19-23, 2016. The FLC logistics team coordinates with supply officers onboard ships prior to their arrival in order to provide quality logistics services such as provisions, fuel, postal services, and pier-side support. As part of their regularly scheduled 7th Fleet deployment, the Sailors of the strike group took advantage of the region’s sports facilities and Terror Club along with other services such as participating in local tours, shopping at the Navy Exchange and utilizing Navy Federal Credit Union banking services.

YATSUSHIRO BAY, Japan (April 20, 2016) - Sailors and Marines load supplies onto an MV-22 Osprey alongside members of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) aboard the destroyer helicopter ship JS Hyuga (DDH) 181. At the request of the Japanese government, U.S. Forces Japan is providing airlift support to Japanese Self-Defense Forces (JSDF). A JSDF task force of more than 25,000 personnel is providing humanitarian and disaster relief assistance to the people affected by the magnitude 6.5 and 7.3 earthquakes that struck the Kumamoto area on April 14 and 16.

Egress training involves learning how to enter an aircraft to rescue any personnel on board should they become incapacitated during an emergency situation.
