Marines Depart 7th Fleet after Successful Series of Military-to-Military Exchanges

Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific Region.

Marine Corps Air Station Futenma Hosts Japanese Language Class for Service Members, Families

Takaatsu Sueyoshi, right, instructs students on Japanese pronunciation during a Survival Japanese Language Class Nov. 29 on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan. The class taught students basic speech, reading and writing skills to enrich their experience while stationed on Okinawa. During the class, the instructor demonstrated the three basic writing styles called hiragana, katakana and kanji. After the demonstration, participants practiced reading, writing and speaking basic Japanese words and phrases. Sueyoshi is a library technician and the instructor of the Survival Japanese Language class.

U.S. Welcomes Sri Lanka's Contribution to Security in the Indo-Asia- Pacific Region

Adm. Harris is first U.S. four-star officer to visit Sri Lanka in almost a decade, was pleased to see deepened military-to-military relationship between Sri Lanka and the United States. He visited Sri Lanka Nov. 27-29 to attend the Galle Dialogue 2016 maritime security conference and meet with senior government and military leaders, including President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Navy Releases Official Logo for 75th Anniversary of WWII

Starting with the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 2016, through the anniversary of the Japanese surrender aboard USS Missouri (BB 63) on September 2, 2020, the Navy will commemorate the pivotal role Sailors played in America's World War II victory. Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV), the Honorable Ray Mabus, right, and USS Makin Island (LHD 8) Commanding Officer Capt. Mark A. Melson observe Makin Island’s Strait of Malacca transit from the bridge after the ship’s departure from Changi Naval Base, Singapore.  Mabus was aboard Makin Island as part of a visit to the Pacific and Central Command areas of responsibility to meet with Sailors, Marines, and military and government officials. Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

U.S., China Participate in Disaster Management Exchange

As part of the U.S.-China Disaster Management Exchange, Maj. Gen. Gregory Bilton, the deputy commanding general for the U.S. Army Pacific, visited the Dianchi Lake November 14 in Kunming, China. Bilton's visit allowed members of the People Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China the opportunity to display customs and traditions of their culture during the U.S.-China DME. The annual United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) Security Cooperation event with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) is an opportunity to share Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief lessons learned from real world events and enhance U.S. and Chinese disaster management capabilities.

USS John C. Stennis to Support 75th Anniversary of Attack on Pearl Harbor

Twenty-six nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 30 to Aug. 4, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2016 is the 25th exercise in the series that began in 1971.
