Pushing Planes: a Labor of Love

C-130H Hercules maintainers assigned to the 374th Maintenance Group prepare an aircraft for takeoff during Operation Christmas Drop (OCD) 2016 at Andersen Air Force Base, Dec. 7, 2016. The maintainers of OCD adapted to a high operational tempo and made sure that the aircraft were safe and ready to fly daily.

Exercise Yama Sakura 71 is an annual command post exercise co-sponsored by U.S. Army Pacific and the JGSDF. The purpose of the exercise is to enhance U.S. and Japan's combat readiness and interoperability while strengthening bilateral relationships and demonstrating U.S. resolve to support the security interests of allies and partners in the Indo-Asia- Pacific region. During the exercise, U.S. military members and JGSDF members exchange ideas, tactic, techniques, military experiences, and culture. Yama Sakura strengthens military operations, trust and friendship.

U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jeffery Deal, aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) specialist, passes a candy cane to May Yamane, a child with the local orphanage, during the ARFF Tsuta Orphanage Christmas party at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Dec. 10, 2016.  ARFF holds the celebration annually to help spread holiday cheer to the orphans and to bring service members, their families and Japanese together. Marines volunteered their time and provided the children with a homemade, American meal. After dinner, a special guest came to greet the children. Santa Claus sat in a red sleigh passing out presents and candy canes to the kids. Marines were given the name, age and gender of a child from the orphanage, so they knew what kind of gift to buy for them.
