Key West visits Singapore during Indo-Asia-Pacific Deployment

The Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS Key West (SSN 722), the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104), and the Royal Thai Navy frigate HTMS Naresuan (FFG 421) and the corvette HTMS Long Lom (FS 533) conduct a transit exercise as part of Exercise Guardian Sea 2017. Sterett is part of the Sterett-Dewey Surface Action Group and is the third deploying group operating under the command and control construct called 3rd Fleet Forward. U.S. 3rd Fleet operating forward offers additional options to the Pacific Fleet commander by leveraging the capabilities of 3rd and 7th Fleets.

This year’s AASAM competition brought together 20 different countries for two weeks to compete, learn and build better alliances. The competition was broken into more than 60 individual matches consisting of rifle, pistol and machine guns. Pankhurst is a sniper with 1st Infantry Regiment. Solinsky, a native of Tucson, Arizona, is an instructor with the Marine Corps rifle team, Weapons Training Battalion aboard Quantico, Virginia.
