961st Airborne Warning and Control System Provides 'Eyes' for Cope Tiger 17

3125 Marine Expeditionary Unit Completed Certification Exercise

Carrier Strike Group 1, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Conduct Bilateral Operations

USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) ships steam in formation at the conclusion of a bilateral exercise to increase proficiency in basic maritime skills and improve response capabilities, Mar. 29, 2017. Over a three-day period the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group and JMSDF ships conducted multiple maneuvers testing their communications interoperability and ship handling techniques. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of U.S. 3rd Fleet. U.S Navy aircraft carrier strike groups have patrolled the Indo-Asia-Pacific regularly and routinely for more than 70 years.

College students from Okinawa International University, Ryukyu University and Toyo Medical Community College toured the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as part of a military exchange experience during the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s 17.1 Spring Patrol of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. Education programs, such as this military exchange experience, increase cooperation, trust and understanding between the U.S. military and the Okinawan community. As the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward deployed unit, the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s air-ground-logistics team provides a flexible force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations, from limited combat to humanitarian assistance operations, throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
