2017 Security Forces Advanced Combat Skills Assessment

The 374th Security Forces Squadron 2017 Security Forces Advanced Combat Skills Assessment team watch Senior Airman Francisco Daniel Barron, 374 SFS alarm monitor, fire an M9 pistol, June 1, 2017, at Yokota Air Base, Japan. The 374 SFS team regularly practiced firing various weapons including the: M4 carbine assault rifle, M9 pistol, M249 light machine gun and the M203 grenade launcher in preparation for the Advanced Combat Skills Assessment competition at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.

Fighter Squadrons 'Switch Hats' for Multi-role Capability

This mission-set is different from the suppression of enemy air defenses exercises performed while in Alaska because an aircraft is the target rather than a grounded target. The ability to move forces and operate from locations across the Indo-Asia-Pacific theater is a key strength for Team Misawa and Pacific Air Forces as a whole.

U.S. Army Pacific held a Family-Soldier Fun Run/Walk June 12 at Historic Palm Circle, Fort Shafter, HI. The two-mile run consisted of Army units and Family members stationed on Oahu. The run was part of the Pacific Theater Army Week activities.

VMA-311 Conducts First Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System Live-fire Training in Pacific

VMA-311 is the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s fixed-wing attack asset and is currently attached to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), the 31st MEU’s Aviation Combat Element. During the flight the Harrier’s pilot fired the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS), a laser-guided rocket, for the first time in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. The 31st MEU partners with the Navy’s Amphibious Squadron 11 to form amphibious component of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group. The 31st MEU and PHIBRON 11 combine to provide a cohesive blue-green team capable of accomplishing a variety of missions across the Indo-Asia-Pacific.

Restoring Wake Island's Guam Memorial: 'Honoring Those Who Came Before Us'

The Guam Memorial on Wake Island was erected in 1991 to honor 45 Chamorros from Guam who worked for Pan American airlines. On Dec. 8, 1941, just a few hours of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Japanese forces attacked Wake Island and 10 of the 45 Chamorros were killed in the attack. The remaining 35 men were sent to prison camps in Japan and China where two died in captivity. Due to decades of corrosion, heat and sun, the memorial was degraded to the point where it became unreadable. During many months in 2017, the Guam Memorial was renovated to its original glory
