25th Infantry Division Soldier Receives Highest Peacetime Medal

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii - The 25th Infantry Division's Deputy Commanding General-Support, Brig. Gen. Patrick Matlock, pins the Soldier's Medal to Sgt. Jonathan Westbrook's uniform during a ceremony at Weyand Field, Oct. 7, 2015. Westbrook received the prestigious medal for his heroic actions during the Fort Hood, Texas, shooting April 2, 2014.

U.S. and The Philippines: Two Nations, One Goal for the Pacific

CAMP H.M. SMITH, Hawaii - Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Philippines, Gen. Hernando Iriberri, and the Commander of U.S. Pacific Command, Adm. Harry Harris Jr., endorse the U.S. and Philippine bilateral calendar for 2016. Gen. Iriberri visited USPACOM to co-chair the Mutual Defense Board and Security Engagement Board with Adm. Harris.  Held annually since 1958, the boards provide a venue for strategic discussions on shared security topics.  Board members consist of the U.S. and Philippine Service commanders, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Joint Interagency Task Force- West  and the U. S. Coast Guard - Pacific Area.  Following the discussions, the co-chairs endorse the bilateral activities for the upcoming year.

Approximately 28 aircraft from the JMSDF, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Marine Corps flew above the warship. The fleet review allowed the JMSDF to assess its readiness and demonstrated the Japanese and the U.S. commitment to enduring prosperity and security in the Asia-Pacific region.

INDIAN OCEAN (Oct. 18, 2015) The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and Japanese Maritime Self-defense Force Akizuki-class destroyer JS Fuyuzuki (DD-118) sail alongside the Indian Deepak-class fleet tanker INS Shakti (A 57) during a replenishment-at-sea exercise as a part of Exercise Malabar 2015. Malabar is a continuing series of complex, high-end war fighting exercises conducted to advance multi-national maritime relationships and mutual security. The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations as part of a worldwide deployment en route to its new homeport in San Diego to complete a three-carrier homeport shift.

CHENNAI, INDIA (October 13, 2015) Officers from Indian Navy, Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and U.S. Navy meet together for an Executive Officer’s Call in the wardroom of the littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) as part of Exercise Malabar.  Currently on a 16-month rotational deployment in support of the Indo-Asia-Pacific Rebalance, Fort Worth is a fast and agile warship tailor-made to patrol the region’s littorals and work hull-to-hull with partner navies, providing 7th Fleet with the flexible capabilities it needs now and in the future.
