Nepal Earthquake Relief Effort Named ‘Operation Sahayogi Haat’

KATHMANDU, Nepal  (May 9, 2015) - Nepalese army soldiers and U.S. Air Force 36th Contingency Response Group Airmen work with Republic of Singapore Air Force members to unload relief supplies from an RSAF C-130 Hercules at the Tribhuvan International.  The Nepalese army and Airmen worked together to process 537,816 pounds of cargo in a 24-hour period from 13 aircraft delivering relief supplies delivered in response to a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the nation April 25, 2015.

KATHMANDU, Nepal (May 7, 2015) - U.S. Airmen and Nepalese service members dismount a pallet of humanitarian aid after an aircraft offload during Joint Task Force 505 humanitarian assistance and disaster relief at Tribhuvan International Airport. The Nepalese government requested the U.S. government's assistance after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the country April 25. U.S Marines from III Marine Expeditionary Force came together with other services to provide unique capabilities to assist Nepal.

TOKYO BAY (May 8, 2015) - USS Houston (SSN 713) transits Tokyo Bay en route to Fleet Activities Yokosuka for a port visit as part of the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine's Western Pacific deployment. Houston is capable of supporting a multitude of missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface ship warfare, naval special warfare involving special operations forces, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, irregular warfare and mine warfare.

2nd Combat Aviation Brigade Leads/combined Exercise

CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea (May, 6, 2015) - Two UH-60 Blackhawks from the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade prepare to land at the Rodriguez Live Fire Complex in the Republic of Korea. The Blackhawks were the security for two CH-47 Chinooks while they dropped off Soldiers as part of a joint/combined training exercise that saw multiple units from across the Korean Peninsula participate.

Joint Task Force 505 Coordinating Military Relief Efforts in Nepal

In this photo, Nepalese military service members unload supplies from a UH-1Y Huey in Charikot on May 5, 2015. Marines with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 469 and Marine Medium Tilt Rotor Squadron 262 carried supplies in a UH-1Y Huey and MV-22 Ospreys to Charikot.  The supplies will provide Nepalese people with shelter after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck central Nepal, April 25, causing fatalities, injuries and significant damage. The government of Nepal declared a state of emergency and requested international assistance. The U.S. military, at the direction of the U.S. Agency for International Development, will continue to support Nepal as needed. HMLA-469 and VMM-262 are attached to Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force.

Chuen Hong Lew, right center, commander of the Republic of Singapore Fleet; Indonesian navy Rear Adm. Darwanto S.H., left, Tentara Nasional Indonesia Eastern Fleet; and Malaysian navy Rear Adm. Dato' Pahlawan Mior Rosdi, right, chief of staff for operations and exercises, Royal Malaysian Navy; aboard the U.S. 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19). The discussion served as a platform for regional senior naval officers to conduct a professional exchange of ideas aimed to increase theater security cooperation by facilitating bilateral and multilateral military interactions.

36th Contingency Response Group Expands US Military Support to Nepal

This exercise marks the first time in history that PAF air battle managers have controlled other aircraft while onboard the AWACS. Since the exercise began, April 20, the 961st AACS has integrated 20 PAF weapons controllers during their missions to provide them with first-hand experience using the aircraft’s systems. The 961st AACS is stationed at Kadena Air Base, Japan.

Wissler meets with Alfonso Lenhardt and members of the United States Agency of International Development at Tribhuvan international airport before they depart to village Bhirkuna Deurali, Nepal. After Nepal was struck by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake Wissler and USAID members distribute supplies including tarps, sleeping systems and water purification solution. The Nepalese Government requested the U.S. Government's help after the earthquake. USAID is a U.S. Government agency that gives civilian foreign aid in time of natural disasters. Wissler is the commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force.
