The new school was built in cooperation between the U.S. and Vietnam and has a secondary-use as a shelter during natural disasters.

Pungmul is a Korean folk music tradition that includes drumming, dancing, and singing. Most performances are outside, with dozens of players, all in constant motion. Pungmul was originally played as part of farm work, on rural holidays, at other village community-building events, and to accompany shamanistic rituals, mask dance dramas and other types of performances.

Flares from a C-130 Hercules transportation aircraft illuminate the landing zone for an incoming CH-53 Super Stallion helicopter during a fire support coordination exercise that kicked off Blue Chromite 2016, at Okinawa, Japan, today. Blue Chromite is large-scale air-ground training exercise that builds upon the Marine Corps’ sea-borne, rapid-reaction capabilities while maintaining the Corps’ strategic presence in the Pacific. The principle units involved in the ongoing exercise are 3rd Marine Division, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and 3rd Marine Logistics Group, all subordinate commands of III Marine Expeditionary Force.

Harry Harris Jr., endorse the U.S. and Philippine bilateral calendar for 2016. Gen. Iriberri visited USPACOM to co-chair the Mutual Defense Board and Security Engagement Board with Adm. Harris.  Held annually since 1958, the boards provide a venue for strategic discussions on shared security topics.  Board members consist of the U.S. and Philippine Service commanders, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Joint Interagency Task Force- West  and the U. S. Coast Guard - Pacific Area.  Following the discussions, the co-chairs endorse the bilateral activities for the upcoming year.

INDIAN OCEAN (Oct. 18, 2015) The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and Japanese Maritime Self-defense Force Akizuki-class destroyer JS Fuyuzuki (DD-118) sail alongside the Indian Deepak-class fleet tanker INS Shakti (A 57) during a replenishment-at-sea exercise as a part of Exercise Malabar 2015. Malabar is a continuing series of complex, high-end war fighting exercises conducted to advance multi-national maritime relationships and mutual security. The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations as part of a worldwide deployment en route to its new homeport in San Diego to complete a three-carrier homeport shift.
