Kadena Service Members Participate in Okinawa Disaster Drill

The scenario centered on the evacuation and rescue of Okinawa inhabitants following a deadly tsunami hitting the island’s eastern coast. A total of 82 separate entities from the U.S. military, Japan Self-Defense Force and local emergency responders worked together to ensure the success of the exercise.

Pacific Partnership Personnel Return Home to Guam

U.S. NAVAL BASE GUAM (Sept. 4, 2015) - The hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) is docked at a pier at Naval Base Guam during Pacific Partnership 2015. Mercy made a port visit to Guam to offload personnel deployed aboard the ship for the past four months for PP15. Pacific Partnership is in its 10th iteration and is the largest annual multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. While training for crisis conditions, Pacific Partnership missions to date have provided real world medical care to approximately 270,000 patients and veterinary services to more than 38,000 animals. Additionally, the mission has provided critical infrastructure development to host nations through more than 180 engineering projects.

KADENA AIR BASE, Japan (Sept. 2, 2015) - Members of the 44th Aircraft Maintenance Unit perform a final check before an F-15 Eagle takes off Tsuiki Air Base.  The members deployed to Tsuiki, Japan, to participate in a two-week Aviation Training Relocation from Kadena Air Base, Japan, to help build interoperability between the two forces. The U.S.-Japan security alliance has remained the cornerstone of peace and security in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region for 50 years.

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii (Sept. 2, 2015) - Members of the Defense Information Systems Agency Pacific Joint Honor Guard conduct a flag folding ceremony during the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II aboard the Battleship Missouri Memorial located on Ford Island.  The ceremony honored and recognized sacrifices made by veterans of WWII and recognized the allied partnership between the United States and Japan today. The event began at 9:02 a.m., the exact time Gen. Douglas MacArthur began proceedings for the formal surrender of Imperial Japan 70 years ago.
