More than 50 members came together to discuss challenges and improvements to military interoperability between the two nations. With growing adversarial competition throughout the Pacific Theater, U.S. and Japanese military leaders increase efforts to unify strategic thinking across the alliance.
KADENA AIR BASE, OKINAWA, Japan
U.S. Airmen and family members with the 320th Special Tactics Squadron and the 31st Rescue Squadron conduct a memorial ruck march at Kadena Air Base, Japan, Oct. 25, 2019. The ruck featured over 1,000 lbs. of equipment and water hauled across five miles. The memorial ruck served as a symbolic gesture of shared suffering among special operations forces service members, in honor of two pararescueman, Tech. Sgts. Peter Kraines and Sean Barnes who died after sustaining injuries during training incidents in 2014 and 2019.

Triggerfish is a U.S. 3rd Fleet-led mission that employs expeditionary forces to conduct hydrographic surveys and clear hazards to navigation in the Federated States of Micronesia in order to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Costello, 38th Air Defense Artillery commander and Command Sgt. Maj. Neil Sartain during a Site Armadillo command walk-through, Oct. 7. The 38th ADA Brigade command team met with members of TF Talon, learned their daily operations and welcomed them to the Pacific Guardian Brigade team during a visit to Guam, Oct. 6-8.

Two F-15C Eagles from the 44th Fighter Squadron fly during a training exercise July 10, 2019, out of Kadena Air Base, Japan. The Eagle can be armed with several combinations of different air-to-air weapons: AIM-120 AMRAAM advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles on its lower fuselage corners, AIM-9M/X Sidewinder or AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles on two pylons under the wings, and an internal 20 millimeter (0.79 in) M61 Vulcan Gatling gun in the right wing root.
KADENA AIR BASE, Japan
U.S. Army, Marine Corps and Air Force service members conduct intravenous hydration during a multi-day training event Aug. 22, 2019, at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Camp Gonsalves, Japan. Army Green Berets from 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) hosted the event for other services as part of its continuous readiness program, enhancing not only their own tactics and procedures, but also expanding field operation capabilities of other units on Okinawa.
