SOUTH CHINA SEA (Oct. 15, 2012) The Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate USS Vandegrift (FFG 48) is underway in the South China Sea. Cowpens is part of the George Washington Carrier Strike Group, the US Navyâ€™s only continuously forward deployed carrier strike group based out of Yokosuka, Japan and is currently conducting a routine Western Pacific patrol in support of regional security and stability of the vital Asia-Pacific region.
