PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea -- Admiral John C. Aquilino, Commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, traveled to Papua New Guinea January 29-30 to underscore the U.S. commitment to advance shared interests toward building a more peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
During his visit Aquilino, joined by Joe Zadrozny, Chargé d’Affaires to Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu, met with John Rosso, Papua New Guinea Deputy Prime Minister, Win Bakri Daki, Minister for Defence, Hari John Akipe, Secretary for Defence, and Maj. Gen. Mark Goina, Chief of Defence Force. Additionally he met with Justin Tkatchenko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Ivan Pomaleu, Chief Secretary at the new U.S. embassy facility in Port Moresby.
This trip marked Aquilino’s first visit to Papua New Guinea as Commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and underscores the importance of the U.S.-Papua New Guinea relationship.
