USS Frank Cable Continues Training for Upcoming Deployment

PACIFIC OCEAN (May 14, 2016)- Gunners Mate 1st Class Reynaldo Palmer, assigned to the submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) weapons department, fires an MH-2B during a live-fire exercise, May 14.  Frank Cable, forward deployed to the island of Guam, performs routine maintenance and support of submarines and surface vessels in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility.

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan (May 17, 2016) - Senior Airman Scott Armstrong, 374th Civil Engineer Squadron electrical systems technician, hold part of a raceway pipe as Staff Sgt. Corey Trowbridge, 932nd Civil Engineer Squadron electrical systems technician, from Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, saws it into two pieces at Yokota Air Base.  The electrical flight crew members worked more than 50 man-hours that will save the Aircrew Flight Equipment shop countless hours of life raft inspections helping them turn around the efficiency of being able to produce lifesaving equipment.

Kunsan brought 10 Aircraft Munitions Maintenance Organization Airmen and will participate through Northern Edge exercise operations.

Richard Brophy, commander, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 lands an F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to the Tophatters of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 14 on USS John C. Stennis' (CVN 74) flight deck during routine flight operations. This marks Brophy's 1,000th arrested landing on an aircraft carrier. Deployed in support of Pacific Partnership 2016, Mercy's mission is designed to emphasize multilateral cooperation and building mutual trust in the Indo-Asia-Pacific. Medical, engineering and various other personnel embarked aboard Mercy will work side-by-side with host and partner nation counterparts, exchanging ideas, building best practices and relationships to ensure preparedness should disaster strike.

Hawaii Chamber of Commerce Names Army's 2016 Outstanding Community Service Honoree

Members of the Military Affairs Council of Hawaii's Chamber of Commerce and his chain of command stand with 1st Sgt. Felipe V. Pinero Jr., 545th Transportation Company, 8th Special Troops Battalion, after he is recognized as the Army's Outstanding Community Service honoree for 2016 in a ceremony at the Hawaii State Capitol, May 6. Not only is 1st Sgt. Pinero the 8th TSC Sergeant Audie Murphy Club Volunteer Coordinator, he has repeatedly helped out at Hawaii Special Olympics events, Hawaii Food Bank programs, and assisted residents at the Tripler Army Medical Center Fisher House.

US, South Korean Artillery Coordinate Fires Near Demilitarized Zone

YEONCHEON, South Korea (May 10, 2016) - South Korean Soldiers from the 231st Field Artillery Battalion, 26th Mechanized Infantry Division Artillery, coordinate fires during a joint artillery exercise with U.S. Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. The exercise, less than six miles from the Demilitarized Zone that separates North and South Korea, involved 30 self-propelled artillery from the U.S. and South Korea.

1-1 Air Defense Artillery Soldiers Join Kadena Airmen for Decontamination Training

U.S. Army Soldiers from the 1-1 Air Defense Artillery Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion practice personnel decontamination procedures during a joint Exercise May 12, 2016, at Kadena Air Base, Japan. During the training, U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 18th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Readiness and Emergency Management Flight instructed the personnel decontamination, while Soldiers from the 1-1 ADA explained vehicle decontamination. The exercise gave participating Soldiers and Airmen alike a chance to work together to bolster interoperability for the continued support and defense of Okinawa and the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

PACIFIC OCEAN (May 15, 2016) - The Republic of Korea Ulsan Class Frigate ROKS Pusan (FF 959), the French light monitoring frigate FSN Vendemiaire (F734) (middle), the guided-missile destroyer USS Momsen (DDG 92) (front) during a photo exercise. Momsen, along with destroyers USS Decatur (DDG 73) and USS Spruance (DDG 111), with embarked "Devil Fish" and "Warbirds" detachments of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 49, are deployed as part of a U.S. 3rd Fleet Pacific Surface Action Group (PAC SAG) under Destroyer Squadron (CDS) 31.

Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 finishes Exercise Thunder Horse 16.2

IWAKUNI, Yamaguchi, Japan (May 12, 2016) - Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 participate in a hike during exercise Thunder Horse 16.2 at the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force's Haramura Maneuver Area in Hiroshima, Japan. The week-long exercise focused on reinforcing skills that Marines learned throughout their military occupational specialty schooling and during Marine Combat Training in order to maintain situational readiness. Motor transportation operators, bulk fuels specialists, and field radio operators trained in various areas including direct refueling, recovery and general engineering operations and established a tactical motor pool.
