03 April 2025

From Petty Officer 1st Class Ian Zagrocki, USS Emory S. Land (AS-39)

DARWIN, Northern Territory, Australia (April 2, 2025) — The submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) departed Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, following a routine port visit, April 2, 2025. During the visit, Emory S. Land provided logistical support to the Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Minnesota (SSN 783).

Emory S. Land’s port visit demonstrates the flexibility and agility of the fleet to provide logistical support to keep undersea warfare assets ready and operating at sea worldwide.

"It is professionally rewarding to share the U.S. Navy’s incredibly versatile range of capabilities within the 7th Fleet area of operations," said Capt. Kenneth Holland, commanding officer of Emory S. Land. "The submarine tender is able to provide logistical support to ships and submarines anywhere and anytime in the world to enable our forces to operate at sea and maintain a secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region."

Minnesota was moored alongside the Emory S. Land in Darwin from March 27 to 31.

The crew of the Emory S. Land and Minnesota engaged in community relations projects and sightseeing in Darwin during their visit.

“It is an honor and privilege to be hosted by the friendly city and phenomenal people of Darwin. We are grateful and thankful that my crew had the opportunity to return to Darwin and experience the Australia culture once more,” said Holland. “As always, we appreciate working with one of our Navy’s closest allies.”

Darwin is the Emory S. Land’s 17th port call since the ship departed on deployment May 17, 2024. Emory S. Land provides expeditionary intermediate-level maintenance, services and logistics support to deployed submarines.
The Emory S. Land and Minnesota are on deployment supporting the U.S. 7th Fleet, the U.S. Navy’s largest forward deployed numbered fleet, operating with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
