U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Zachary Rumke, 66th Training Squadron, Detachment 1, Arctic Survival School instructor, tests an F-35A Lightning II survival gear kit in Fairbanks, Alaska, Nov. 5, 2019. Navy, Marine Corps Achieve First in Arctic Exercise
Sailors participating in the Arctic Expeditionary Capabilities Exercise (AECE) 2019, coordinate movements of machines and equipment while testing a system to transfer fluid from ship to shore in Seward, Alaska, Sept. 17. This capability could be used in a variety of scenarios to including humanitarian relief missions such as the emergency resupply of heating fuel to Alaskan communities cut off by natural disaster. Approximately 3,000 U.S. Navy and Marine Corps personnel participate in AECE 2019, a joint training exercise that tests expeditionary logistical capabilities in the Arctic region and prepares joint forces to respond to crises across the Indo-Pacific.

Navy Divers Clear Fishing Vessel from Alaska Harbor in Arctic Exercise
Navy Divers from Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit One continue work on the dismantlement of the F/V Heritage, an abandoned vessel that had been blocking access to a boat ramp on Adak Island in Alaska™s Aleutian island chain, in support of Arctic Expeditionary Capabilities Exercise (AECE) 2019. AECE 2019 is an INDOPACOM exercise focusing on the integration of naval forces to demonstrate feasibility of amphibious operations, wet logistics over the shore (WETLOTS), expeditionary mine countermeasures, mobile diving and salvage, and offshore petroleum discharge system (OPDS) operations while operating over extended distances in an austere operating environment. Navy and Marine Corps participants will conduct operational and tactical actions to validate the Littoral Operations in a Contested Environment (LOCE) and the Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO) concepts.

Alaska Unit Succeeds in Arctic Test of Unmanned Vehicles, Anti-Mine Systems
Operations Specialist 1st Class Sean McNamara, assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit One (EODMU1), launches the Mk 18 Mod 2 Kingfish for an initial underwater survey of Sweeper Cove on Adak Island in the Alaska's Aleutian chain. EODMU 1 is providing expeditionary mine countermeasures support in support of Arctic Expeditionary Capabilities Exercise 2019. EODMU1 provides operational EOD capabilities to include locating, identifying, rendering safe, exploiting, recovering and disposing of all explosive ordnance.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group One established high-frequency radio communications from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit One operating over 2,000 miles away in Adak, Alaska during Arctic Expeditionary Capabilities Exercise (AECE) 2019 with high frequency antennas (pictured). Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group One is testing a variety of communications to prepare for operating in austere environments supporting EOD forces in eliminating explosive threats. AECE is one in a series of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command exercises in 2019 that prepares joint forces to respond to crises in the Indo-Pacific.

Airmen Exercise Agile Combat Employment at Red Flag Alaska
U.S. Airmen assigned to the 67th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, Kadena Air Base, Japan, launch an F-15 Eagle at Allen Army Airfield during Red Flag-Alaska 19-3 at Fort Greely, Alaska, Aug 8, 2019. National Guard Units Participate in OCRA Excercise 2019
Mississippi Army National Guard Maj. Richmond Lachney and Staff Sgt. Vernon Wasson, 47th Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Team, unload equipment from an Alaska Army National Guard CH-47 Chinook helicopter during ORCA 2019 in Alaska, July 16. ORCA is a chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear threats response exercise designed for participants to provide support in the aftermath of hazardous materials incidents. ORCA tests interoperability between agencies increases opportunities for working relationships and practices requests for assistance methods. 120 National Guardsmen from CST units in Alaska, Mississippi, Montana, Utah, Nevada, Hawaii and Washington are in Alaska to participate in Exercise ORCA 2019. 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation aircrews from the Alaska unit transported CST members to several exercise locations in support of event scenarios.
