PORT VILA, Vanuatu--Contracted mariners aboard maritime preposition force ship USNS Pililaau (T-AKR 304) tend stabilization lines while using Pililaau's midships crane 4 to move maritime prepositioning force utility boat into the waters of Port Vila, Vanuatu, during KOA MOANA 16-4, Oct. 25.  The KOA MOANA (Ocean Warrior) exercise series seeks to enhance senior military leader engagements between allied and partner nations with a collective interest in military-to-military relations and to discuss key aspects of military operations, capability development, and interoperability.

Long was selected as a winner in a Marine Corps logistical innovation competition for incorporating a blood clotting agent and pain killer with a Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI) to minimize the time between injury and aid. Long, from Moultrie, Georgia, is a motor transport mechanic with Motor Transport Company, Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.

Congressional Staff Delegates Visit Korea

YONGSAN ARMY GARRISON, SEOUL -- United States Congressional Staff Delegates, Steve Barney, Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) Majority General Counsel; Gary Leeling, SASC Minority General Counsel; Jim Hickey, Senior Military Advisor to Arizona Senator John McCain; Samantha Clark, SASC Deputy General Counsel; Al Edwards, SASC Majority Counsel; and Jon Clark, SASC Majority Counsel visited the Brian Allgood Army Community Hospital (BAACH) October 18, 2016. The delegation received a command brief from the Medical Department Activity Command Korea Commander and 65th Medical Brigade Commander, Col. Wendy Harter and Col. Erica Clarkson, BAACH Commander. They were also briefed on the Army Substance Abuse Program transition to the medical command. While at the BAACH, the delegation had lunch at the hospital dining facility with select soldiers followed by a tour of the facility focusing on primary care, physical therapy, emergency department and a tour of the transition to hostilities storage warehouse.

Exercise Lava Viper: Direct Fire Training

POHAKULOA TRAINING AREA, Hawaii – Marines with Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment’s “Black Sheep,” fire an M777 Lightweight Towed Howitzer during a direct fire training exercise as part of Lava Viper 17.1, a staple in the battalion’s pre-deployment training on Oct. 16, 2016, at Range 13 aboard Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii. Lava Viper Provides the Hawaii-based Marines with an opportunity to conduct various movements, live-fire and tactical, integrating combined arms exercises.
