KUALA LUMPUR, U.S. Embassy in Malaysia -- The U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur delivered an additional donation of COVID-19 relief assistance to help Malaysia fight against the pandemic, on June 8, 2021 . The supplies were delivered to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) in Putrajaya and included information technology (ICT) equipment that NADMA will use to manage COVID-19 response operations in Malaysia. The donation also included personal protective equipment (PPE) like facemasks, hand sanitizers and thermometers for frontline workers. Also present during the delivery was NADMA’s Director General Datuk Dr. Aminuddin bin Hassim.

This COVID-19 assistance was made possible through the Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) at the U.S. Embassy by the U.S. Department of Defense, USINDOPACOM Overseas Humanitarian, Disaster, and Civic Aid (ODHACA) office. The delivery marked the second part of a donation provided to Malaysia totalling $250,000.00. Earlier in March, Ambassador McFeeters and members of the ODC team visited the quarantine center at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) to witness the delivery of the first part of the PPE donation to the Ministry of Health. The U.S. military along with civilian partners have a shared commitment to working together to address humanitarian issues around the world.

NADMA expressed their gratitude on behalf of the Malaysian government for the additional contribution from the United States, via ODC and the U.S. Embassy. “This contribution will be put to good use to assist our health frontliners in battling the third wave of COVID-19 spread that is currently ravaging our country. This generous gesture is testament of the U.S. solidarity and strong bilateral ties with Malaysia.”

The U.S. is the largest contributor to the international response to COVID-19. In a video message about the donation to Malaysia and U.S. global contributions to COVID-19 relief efforts, Ambassador McFeeters said, “The United States is currently in coordination with COVAX to contribute 80 million additional COVID-19 vaccines for the global vaccine program run by GAVI and the World Health Organization (WHO). Earlier this month, President Biden announced that the United States will donate seven million of those doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Asian countries, including Malaysia.”
