U.S. Air Force Airmen from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, assigned to the 673rd Expeditionary Civil Engineer squadron, build an addition to Ban Khao Talat School during an engineering civil action project in Rayong Province, Kingdom of Thailand, Feb. 27, 2023. The nearly 30 day construction project involved Airmen working alongside their Thai and Indonesian counterparts. The ENCAP is part of Cobra Gold 23’s emphasis on civic action and humanitarian assistance to further regional collaboration in vital areas. Cobra Gold, now in its 42nd year, is a Thai-U.S. co-sponsored training event that builds on the longstanding friendship between the two allied nations and brings together a robust multinational force to promote regional peace and security in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific. The crew of the USCGC Myrtle Hazard (WPC 1139) transfers two mariners rescued from the water about halfway between Guam and Rota midday on Feb. 9, 2023, to a Station Apra Harbor 45-foot Response Boat-Medium for further transport to shore. The crew responded to a mayday call from the master of the 42-foot vessel Senor Dung on Feb. 8 along with other federal and local responders. Share

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam

A U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon from the "Red Lancers" of Patrol Squadron (VP) 10 takes off from Kadena Air Base, March 3. The Red Lancers are based in Jacksonville, Florida, and are currently operating from Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. The squadron conducts maritime patrol and reconnaissance, as well as theater outreach operations, as part of a rotational deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. Share

Thailand

Amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) transits the Gulf of Thailand during exercise Cobra Gold 202, March 3, 2023. Exercise Cobra Gold 2023, in its 42nd iteration, is one of the largest multilateral theater security cooperation exercises in the Indo-Pacific and reflects the U.S. commitment to allies and partners, providing a continuous and reliable platform to train, prepare, and enhance regional interoperability. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island and amphibious transport dock USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations with the embarked 13th MEU to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serve as a ready-response force to defend peace and maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region. SOUTH CHINA SEA

Ships and aircraft from Nimitz Carrier Strike Group (NIMCSG) and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (MKI ARG), with embarked 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), operate in formation in the South China Sea. NIMCSG, MKI ARG and 13th MEU, are conducting combined expeditionary strike force (ESF) operations, demonstrating unique high-end war fighting capability, maritime superiority, power projection and readiness. Operations include integrated training designed to advance interoperability between the two groups while simultaneously demonstrating the U.S. commitment to our alliances and partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region. NIMCSG is in U.S. 7th Fleet conducting routine operations. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with Allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
