HONOLULU, Hawaii
Multilateral partners from across the Indo-Pacific launched the Indo-Pacific Defense Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Steering Committee, in Honolulu, Sept. 13, 2024. Military gender advisors from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, and the United States participated as committee members. Their nations have all resourced a full-time WPS capability in their defense forces. The U.S Indo-Pacific Command-hosted Regional Military Gender Advisor Course (RGC), taking place in Honolulu, Sept. 9-20, enabled this steering committee meeting. The RGC builds on the momentum of the previous year, with participants in the inaugural 2023 course returning this year as instructors and facilitators. U.S. Army Pacific held a Family-Soldier Fun Run/Walk June 12 at Historic Palm Circle, Fort Shafter, HI. The two-mile run consisted of Army units and Family members stationed on Oahu. The run was part of the Pacific Theater Army Week activities.
WAKE ISLAND ATOLL

The Guam Memorial on Wake Island was erected in 1991 to honor 45 Chamorros from Guam who worked for Pan American airlines. On Dec. 8, 1941, just a few hours of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Japanese forces attacked Wake Island and 10 of the 45 Chamorros were killed in the attack. The remaining 35 men were sent to prison camps in Japan and China where two died in captivity. Due to decades of corrosion, heat and sun, the memorial was degraded to the point where it became unreadable. During many months in 2017, the Guam Memorial was renovated to its original glory
FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii
U.S. Army Pacific Commanding General Gen. Robert B. Brown (left) presents Maj. Gen. Mark J. O'Neil, Chief of Staff, U. S. Army Pacific, with the Distinguished Service Medal "For Exceptionally Meritorious Service In A Duty Of Great Responsibility" at a Flying "V" ceremony held at historic Palm Circle, Fort Shafter, Hawaii, June 9. The Flying "V" ceremony was held to honor O'Neil for his distinguished service as he prepares to depart USARPAC. The "V" refers to the way the colors are posted during the ceremony, which is V-shaped.

Sarah Grills and her K-9 partner Baron, a patrol explosives detector dog with the 520th MWD Detachment, 728th Military Police Battalion, 8th MP Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, conduct a route clearing mission during 58th MP Company's, 728th MP Bn., validation exercise (VALEX) May 22-26, at Makua Military Reservation, here. The VALEX was conducted as part of the company's training for their upcoming deployment to Guam.
PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii

Fox, both retired Marines who served at the Battle of Midway, examine a message routing switchboard during their tour of the former Station Hypo in Building #1 of the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, June 2, 2017. The message routing board is one of the few remaining relics of the apparatus from Station Hypo, which deciphered the Japanese Imperial Navy code leading to the U.S. victory at the Battle of Midway June 4-6, 1942. The retired Marines were among a small group who toured the site of Station Hypo following a ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary of the victory at Midway, often considered the turning point of the war in the Pacific.
