U.S. Navy, JMSDF EOD Technicians Strengthen Ties during Mine Exercise
Explosive ordnance disposal technicians assigned to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and the U.S. Navy participate in a live bottom mine contact charge demonstration during IWOTO 2019. IWOTO 2019 is one of the largest live mine countermeasures exercises conducted in the entire world, providing personnel with the opportunity to conduct contact charges and FMRs against real mines without sensor packages.

Royal Thai Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Chaiwat Chaisut, assigned to the Royal Thai Navy Diver and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Center, takes notes during a knowledge exchange about different types of explosives and disposal techniques as part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Thailand 2019. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Signs $21.9M 40 Year Lease with US DOD
Officials from the Department of Defense, Commonwealth Port Authority, and the government of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands signed a $21.9 lease agreement May 3, 2019, at Tinian Airport, CNMI. Sailors assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 5, jump out of a MH-60S Seahawk helicopter, attached to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 25, during a Cast and Recovery portion of the Naval Helicopter Rope Suspension Technique (HRST) course. EODMU-5 is assigned to Commander, Navy Expeditionary Forces Pacific, the primary expeditionary task force responsible for the planning and execution of coastal riverine operations, explosive ordnance disposal, diving engineering and construction, and underwater construction in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.

HSC-25 Rescues Two Fishermen From Sunken Watercraft
Naval Aircrewman (Helicopter) 1st Class William Medlin lowers Naval Aircrewman (Helicopter) 2nd Class Robert Washington, both assigned to the “Island Knights” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 25, to rescue two local spear fishermen after their personal watercraft sank off the east coast of Guam. HSC-25 provides a multi-mission rotary wing capability for units in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations and maintains a Guam-based 24-hour search-and-rescue and medical evacuation capability, directly supporting U.S. Coast Guard and Joint Region Marianas. HSC-25 is the Navy’s only forward-deployed MH-60S expeditionary squadron.
