HOSOSHIMA, Japan - Sailors raise the anchor as the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Chief (MCM 14) prepares to go underway. Chief is participating in the annual bilateral mine countermeasures exercise 3JA with the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force to increase proficiency and interoperability in MCM operations.
