49th Missile Defense Battalion tests its METL
The 100th Missile Defense Brigade and the 49th Missile Defense Battalion conduct their most comprehensive and thorough external evaluation to date at Fort Greely Aug. 20-24. Guardian Watch 18, a variation of a biannual event, was an 84-hour exercise that tested the battalion on 28 tasks and many performance measures within its two missions: defending the United States and designated areas from intercontinental ballistic missile attack and critical site security of the Missile Defense Complex at Fort Greely.

An Icy Reminder in an Arctic Thaw
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Momsen (DDG 92) arrives at the Port of Alaska in Anchorage. Momsen is visiting Anchorage in conjunction with the Arctic Maritime Symposium. DoD partnerships critical to Fairbanks' strategic importance
Since 1999, the Missile Defense Agency and the Corps' Alaska District have collaborated to design and construct infrastructure to bolster the nation's defense posture against foreign-launched missile systems. Since then, the district has designed six facilities, completed 63 projects and are actively engaged in 13 other missile defense-related construction efforts such as Clear Air Force Station's $347 million Long Range Discrimination Radar complex. The two agencies' combined efforts to date have resulted in the design and construction of missile defense facilities in Alaska valued at about $1.26 billion.

1st Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment cases colors for Korea rotation
Lt. Col. Matthew Landrum, commander of the 1st Regiment, 25 Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, and Command Sgt. Maj. Antonio Ruiz, 1-25 ARB command sergeant major, cased the unit’s colors during a Color Casing Ceremony June 1, in preparation for the unit’s upcoming orders. The colors will remain cased until the unit arrives at their forward location where the commander and command sergeant major will hold a ceremony to uncase the colors.
