Osprey is approved for takeoff

Cope Angel strengthens alliances on mainland Japan

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan (Aug. 9, 2017) - U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Jason Allchin, a 35th Operations Support Squadron survival, evasion, resistance and escape specialist, and Japan Air Self-Defense Force Akita Prefecture Rescue Squadron pararescuemen and aircrew transport a simulated injured pilot during exercise Cope Angel 17 at Misawa Air Base. Once sending his location, rescue crews retrieved and transported the simulated injured pilot by a UH-60J Black Hawk back to Misawa AB. The purpose of this exercise showcased the bilateral alliance between the U.S. and Japan during possible rescue and triage operations.

Draughon range expands joint, bilateral training limits

The team consisted of service members from five partnering nations aside from the U.S. and Republic of Fiji including Australia, Vanuatu, Indonesia, the Philippines and France. The nations all offered their assistance in the exercise promoting regional military-civilian-nongovernmental organization cooperation and interoperability across the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. The hotel staff joined in the photo as their support for the service members staying at their hotel ensured the PACANGEL 17-3 personnel were well rested, fed and relaxed when caring for their fellow countrymen whether at the health services site or on engineering projects.

Rubble on the runway

Japanese contractors conduct routine maintenance on the airfield at Misawa Air Base, Japan, May 18, 2017. The runway become fully operational June 26, more than a week ahead of schedule. View from inside a K-span

The lights remain off 24/7 in the tents and K-spans in the Rush Park life support area where personnel deployed in support of Key Resolve 2017 at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, March 15, 2017. The K-span, which is a pre-manufactured steel-framed building, can house up to 120 personnel who sleep on both beds and cots and most have wall lockers to secure their valuables. The only lights visible are flash lights and daylight which creeps through the various cracks in the building’s superstructure. Overhead lights permanently stay off for members who work different shifts during the 24/7 operations of KR17.
