PHILIPPINE SEA

1st Lt. Rio Sarmiento, assigned to the 16th Space Control Squadron (SPCS), was administered the oath of office into the United States Space Force by U.S. Marine Col. Michael Nakonieczny, commanding officer of the 31st MEU, aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). Sarmiento was transferred from being an Air Force Space Operations Officer to becoming the first Space Force Liaison Officer (LNO) deployed with the 31st MEU. America, flagship of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. COLOMBO, Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Navy Marines meet and shake hands with U.S. Marines and Sailors assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) while on a regularly scheduled deployment of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 13th MEU, August 25, 2018. The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and the embarked Marines of the 13th MEU conducted a theater security cooperation exercise with the Sri Lankan Navy and Navy Marines. Part of a growing U.S.-Sri Lanka naval partnership, the exercise was also an opportunity for U.S. Seventh Fleet to explore local logistics support services for visiting naval forces operating throughout the Indo-Pacific region. SOUTH CHINA SEA

U.S. reconnaissance Marines with the Maritime Raid Force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) exfiltrate towards a CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st MEU, during a simulated visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) mission aboard dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42). VBSS is a part of Maritime Interception Operations that aim to delay, disrupt, or destroy enemy forces or supplies in the maritime domain. Germantown, part of the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The America ARG, 31st MEU team remains the premier crisis response force in the region despite the unique challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Share

CENTRAL TRAINING AREA, Okinawa, Japan

Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), attach fuel lines to assault amphibious vehicles during a forward arming and refueling point (FARP) exercise. The exercise served as a proof of concept for using AAVs to transport refueling equipment from San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Green Bay (LPD 20) in order to independently support a FARP when conducting split operations.
