The Republic of Korea and U.S. conduct a combined aerial exercise with the deployment of U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortresses over the Republic of Korea, April 14, 2023. The combined flight operations provide the U.S. and its allies the opportunity to further strengthen their interoperability and demonstrate a combined defense capability. Makin Island ARG Conducts Balikatan with the Armed Forces of the Philippines
A U.S. Navy landing craft, air cushion, assigned to Assault Craft Unit 5, and a U.S. Marine MV-22 Osprey, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor (VMM) 362 (Rein.), 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, returns to amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), during a ship-to-shore operation of Balikatan 23, April 12, 2023 in the Subic Bay Harbor. Balikatan is an annual exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. military designed to strengthen bilateral interoperability, capabilities, trust, and cooperation built over decades shared experiences. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of Makin Island and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. U.S. Army Japan renames headquarters to honor past leader
The General Maxwell D. Taylor Building plaque is posted in front of the U.S. Army Japan headquarters. Gen. Taylor took the helm of U.S. Army Japan, then U.S. Army Forces, Far East, in November 1954. He relinquished command of the unit on April 1, 1955, to lead all U.S. forces in Japan and Korea as the Commanding General of U.S. Far East Command, a unified combatant command.
