Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Colonel receives U.S. Armed Forces Meritorious Service Medal
U.S. Marines with III Marine Expeditionary Force congratulate retired Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Col. Rikiya Kondo, former commanding officer of Fuji Training Center, JGSDF, after an award ceremony on Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 6, 2023. Kondo was presented the U.S. Armed Forces Meritorious Service Medal for his outstanding initiative to build relationships between the U.S. and JGSDF forces. His efforts resulted in the creation of exercise SHINKA, a reoccurring multi-domain force-on-force exercise that enhances bilateral warfighting tactics, techniques, and procedures.

USS Michigan Operates in 7th Fleet
The Ohio-class guided-missile submarine USS Michigan (SSGN 727) made a brief stop for personnel near Okinawa, Japan as part of its deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations, Nov. 10. Michigan is homeported at Naval Base Kitsap, Washington and is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations, conducting maritime security operations and supporting national security interests.

Navy-Marine Corps team brings integrated lethality in the littorals
U.S. Marine Corps High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems with 3d Battalion, 12th Marines conduct a fire mission during Exercise Noble Jaguar 2021 within the Central Training Area on Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 30, 2021. The Marine Corps and Navy leveraged integrated command and control and joint sensors to expand battlefield awareness, share targeting data, and conduct long-range precision strikes in support of sea control and sea denial in contested maritime environments. III Marine Expeditionary Force executed these actions as a part of an integrated operation with 7th Fleet to maintain readiness and demonstrate U.S. resolve to preserve regional security.
