Service members unite to provide assistance to isolated village in Alaska
Students from Old Harbor School visit the Innovative Readiness Training site in Old Harbor, Alaska, April 20, 2017. The visit included a tour of the camp and worksite, along with rides in equipment being used to expand the existing runway. The U.S. Marine Forces led project is part of a civil and joint military program to improve military readiness while simultaneously providing quality services to underserved communities throughout the United States. Additional participants include the Alaska and Arizona National Guards, Air Force Reserve, Navy Reserve, and Coast Guard.

Arizona Guardsman Spc. Joseph Charles, a motor vehicle operator with the 259th Engineer Platoon, operates heavy equipment during a runway extension project at Innovative Readiness Training Old Harbor, Alaska, April 19, 2017. The project will extend the existing Old Harbor runway by 2,700 feet, which will allow larger aircraft to land in Old Harbor. Air Force partners for environmental conservation on Wake Atoll
Birds fly and nest in the bird sanctuary on Wilkes Island at Wake Atoll April 11, 2017. The sanctuary has approximately 40,000 birds and 12 species on an island less than one square mile in size. The U.S. Air Force, through partnerships with agencies such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, have worked in recent years to restore Wake Atoll to a more natural habit for its bird population and rid the three islands of invasive plant species. Wake Atoll, made up of the tropical islands of Wilkes, Wake and Peale, is located approximately 2,138 nautical miles west of Honolulu, has a population of roughly 100 residents including Air Force personnel and American and Thai contractors, and is managed by the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center under 11th Air Force at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska

Alaska Airborne Team Conducts Satellite Communications Test While Preparing for Combat Training Center
Soldiers from the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska set up two "Heavy" systems on the left, and two "Lite" systems on the right, of the Transportable Tactical Command Communications (T2C2) system during new equipment training during February. The Soldiers then conducted a record test of the system during operational testing March 15 to 26. T2C2 is a new Army program of record that when fielded will provide agile robust voice and data communications in the early phases of joint operations and in later operational phases at the tactical edge.
