U.S. Ambassador to Japan Visits USS Ronald Reagan
Capt. Fred Goldhammer, commanding officer, speaks with The Honorable Rahm Emanuel, the U.S. ambassador to Japan, in the hangar bay of the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). During his visit, Emanuel toured Ronald Reagan, addressed the crew, and served as the keynote speaker in a naturalization ceremony where 17 candidates from 11 different countries became American citizens. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

USS Ronald Reagan returns to Yokosuka following 5th and 7th Fleet Deployment

During Ronald Reagan's deployment, the ship transited 43,000 nautical miles operating in the U.S. 5th fleet area of operations to assist with Operation Freedom's Sentinel and Operation Allies Refuge in support of U.S. drawdown operations in Afghanistan. Ronald Reagan returned to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility and took part in multi-carrier operations, which included 15,000 sailors from six partner nations upholding collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

USS John S. McCain Departs U.S. 7th Fleet After 24-years Forward Deployed
Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) departs Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) while shifting its homeport to Naval Station Everett, Washington, and bringing an end to 24 years of being forward-deployed to U.S. 7th Fleet. McCain was assigned to Task Force 71/Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy's largest forward-deployed DESRON and U.S. 7th Fleet's principal surface force. For more than 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.
