Japanese guests wait in line to board the U.S. Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) during the 42nd annual Yokosuka Friendship Day celebration. The open base event highlights the friendship between the U.S. Navy and Japan. FLEACT Yokosuka provides, maintains, and operates base facilities and services in support of 7th Fleet’s forward-deployed naval forces, 71 tenant commands, and 27,000 military and civilian personnel.

CNSP Visits Sasebo, Discusses Command Philosophy

Rich Brown, commander of Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet (CNSP), speaks with Sailors and Marines in Sasebo, Japan, in the hangar bay of the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1). MCAS Iwakuni is home to approximately half of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing that is headquartered on Okinawa, elements of the 3rd Marine Logistics Group, Fleet Air Wing 31 of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force, and other units of JMSDF. At present the station has about 15,000 personnel, including Japanese national employees.

The Pacific Air Forces’ F-16 Demonstration Team plants native vegetation by a riverbank with the Youth Employment in Parks program members in Anchorage, Alaska, June 29, 2018. The YEP program provides a 10-week summer program, hiring Anchorage teens to complete park improvement projects. Participants learn natural resource management job skills by building trails and restoring stream banks.

STEP ONE, CHECK – 31ST MEU COMPLETES MEUEX
Marines with Echo Company, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, riding Assault Amphibious Vehicles, head toward the shore during a mechanized assault as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s MEU Exercise, near Ginoza Village, Okinawa, Japan, June 28, 2018. Marines and Sailors with Echo Company performed the final training event of MEUEX, an assault launched from Camp Schwab and targeting Combat Town, part of Okinawa’s Central Training Area. Marines with Echo Company, the mechanized assault element with BLT 2/5, partner with AAV crews to perform raids and assaults launched from the sea. MEUEX is the first in a series of three pre-deployment training events that prepare the 31st MEU to deploy at a moment’s notice. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations.

Pacific Partnership 2018 Concludes
Sailors assigned to Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) for Pacific Partnership 2018 (PP18) and Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) transfer a mock patient from an SH-60K Sea Hawk helicopter attached to the JMSDF during a bilateral medical training team drill between Mercy and JMSDF personnel. USNS Mercy is making port visits to Yokosuka and Tokyo to promote relationships between U.S. Navy Sailors and Japanese citizens through cultural exchange and bilateral training.
