USS Barry completes dry dock period in Japan
The guided-missile destroyer USS Barry (DDG 52) is pulled toward a pier after departing from a dry dock at Fleet Activities Yokosuka. Barry is departing the dock after an extensive maintenance period in order to sustain the ship’s ability to serve as a forward-deployed asset in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.

The fight for Tarawa: 75th anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific Theater of WWII
In this file photo, U.S. Marines storm Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands. Nov. 20, 2018 marks the 75th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Tarawa, which was part of Operation Galvanic. It marks one of the bloodiest battles of WWII. The 75th commemoration of the Battle of Tarawa is an opportunity to honor the courage, service and sacrifice of the U.S. military personnel present during the attacks.

Seabees Work Through the Night, Complete Mount Out Exercise
Construction Electrician Constructionman Apprentice Jaden Brevick, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3, washes a high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle during a 48-hour mount out exercise (MOX) onboard Camp Shields in Okinawa, Japan. A MOX simulates one of the core capabilities of an NMCB; the ability to deploy an 89-person air detachment within 48 hours to support any mission required by a supported commander. NMCB-3 is forward deployed throughout the Indo-Pacific region and United States ready to support major combat operations, theater security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.

Three U.S. Army Garrison Japan firefighters rescue a simulated injured victim from a UH-60 helicopter during an aircraft bilateral exercise co-hosted by USAG Japan and the U.S. Army Aviation Battalion Japan on Nov. 16, 2018, on Sagami General Depot, Japan. The Garrison and aviation battalion co-hosted the event to improve their emergency response capabilities and bilateral work with off-post first-responders from Sagamihara City.

Armistice Day Centennial Remembrance Ceremony Held in Sasebo to Honor Fallen of the Great War
Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo Color Guard presents the colors during the Armistice Day Centennial Remembrance Ceremony held in Sasebo, Japan Nov. 9, 2018. CFAS Capt. Brad Stallings, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Capt. Naonori Yoshikawa, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Col. Hiroki Onoda and Sasebo City Vice Mayor Hiroshi Kawata were in attendance. The ceremony was held in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the World War I armistice and in remembrance of the American and Japanese service members who died in the conflict. It was held in the former Triumph Memorial Hall, which was built in 1923 to commemorate Imperial Japanese Navy participation in World War I.

35th Fighter Wing strengthens U.S., Japan alliance during Tsuiki ATR

Keen Sword 19 is a joint, bilateral field-training exercise involving U.S. military and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force personnel, designed to increase combat readiness and interoperability of the Japan-U.S. alliance.

31st MEU Takes the Lead of Joint-service Task Force in Response to Super Typhoon Yutu
Gunnery Sgt. Angel Ignacio, the battalion gunnery sergeant with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, catches a package of bottled water from a coastguardsman aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Washington (WPB-1331) while delivering food and supplies to citizens of Tinian, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands during relief efforts in the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu, Oct. 29, 2018. Ignacio, a communications chief, is a native of Guam, CNMI, which was also affected by Yutu. The Marines arrived on Tinian in the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu as part of the U.S. Defense Support of Civil Authorities here. The Marines arrived at the request of CNMI officials and the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist relief efforts in the wake of Yutu, the largest typhoon to ever hit a U.S. territory. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations across the Indo-Pacific region.
