Cargo is loaded onto the Military Sealift Command chartered heavy lift ship Plantijngracht, in preparation for delivery to the remote Antarctica outpost of McMurdo Station, in support of the annual resupply mission; Operation Deep Freeze 2026. Navy reservists from Military Sealift Command Pacific’s Expeditionary Port Unit (EPU) are supporting cargo operations by overseeing the loadout of 302 pieces of cargo being loaded onto the ship. The cargo will provide sustainment to personnel on the remote station for the coming year.

Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group sails in formation with French Carrier Strike Group and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force during Pacific Steller 2025
PHILIPPINE SEA (Feb. 12, 2025) — Aircraft from the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group (VINCSG) and French Carrier Strike Group (CSG) fly in formation over the Philippine Sea with ships from VINCSG, French CSG, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), and U.S. Military Sealift Command (MSC) during Pacific Steller 2025, Feb. 12. From left, an F/A-18F Super Hornet, F-35C Lightning II, E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, and two French Navy Rafale Marine (F4) fighter jets. The ships from VINCSG include the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59), and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Sterett (DDG 104) and USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110). The ships from French CSG include the aircraft carrier FS Charles De Gaulle (R 91) and its escort of air-defense destroyers and multi-mission frigates. The ships from JMSDF include the Izumo-class multi-functional destroyer JS Kaga (DDH 184) and Akizuki-class destroyer JS Akizuki (DD 115). The ships from MSC include the Henry J. Kaiser-class fleet replenishment oiler USNS Tippecanoe (T-AO 199) and Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Charles Drew (T-AKE 10). VINCSG is underway conducting Pacific Steller 2025, a multi-large deck event with French CSG and JMSDF, fostering our alliance and maritime security in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific. Tanker Ships Deliver Fuel to MSC Ships Via CONSOL in Support of RIMPAC 2022

Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, four submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2022 is the 28th exercise in the series that began in 1971.

U.S. Fleet Oiler Conducts Replenishments-at-Sea, Enhances Interoperability with Australia During Annual Exercise
Henry J. Kaiser-class replenishment oiler USNS Big Horn (T-AO198) conducts underway replenishments in the Philippine Sea with partners and allies, including Anzac-class frigate HMAS Warramunga (FFH 152) of the Royal Australian Navy, as part of Annual Exercise, Nov. 21-30. Naval forces from Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan and the United States took part in the multilateral, multinational exercise, led by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. The exercise helps strengthen enduring relationships while sharpening naval proficiencies.

Military Sealift Command’s USNS Pecos Delivers Project Handclasp to Thai Kids
SRIRACHA, Thailand—Aviation Metalsmith 2nd Class Kevin Brown with Patrol Squadron 8, hands a child an items from a U.S. Navy Project Handclasp kit during a community relations event at Map Yang Ra Hong primary school in Chantaburi, Dec. 16. USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) Arrives in Guam
The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) pulls into Naval Base Guam, Feb. 10. Vinson is on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment with the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of the U.S. 3rd Fleet in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. Navy aircraft carrier strike groups have patrolled the Indo-Asia-Pacific regularly and routinely for more than 70 years.
