Reserve Sailors 'Single-Greatest Boon' to Navy's First Unmanned Patrol Squadron
A MQ-4C on the runway at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, July 13, 2022. The MQ-4C is on a deployment to MCAS Iwakuni in support of continuing operations in the Indo-Pacific area of operations. The "Big Red" of VUP-19 are deployed in support of Commander Task Force 72 and are home-ported in Jacksonville, Florida. Throughout their deployment, they will be conducting maritime patrol and reconnaissance and theater outreach operations within the 7th Fleet area of operations.

7th Fleet Staff Join 12th Marine Regiment for Live Fire Exercise
Marines with 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment demonstrate to members of 7th Fleet staff staff the readiness of an M142 high mobility artillery rocket system launcher during Artillery Relocation Training Program 20.3 at Combined Arms Training Center, Camp Fuji. 7th Fleet serves with III MEF to continually execute missions that enable maritime superiority through effective command and control, prosecution of naval fires, and operational maneuvers.

Expeditionary advanced basing capabilities on display during Exercise Noble Fury
U.S. Marines with 12th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division, conduct a simulated High Mobility Artillery Rocket System fire mission while demonstrating expeditionary advanced basing capabilities Oct. 7 to 8, 2020, as part of Exercise Noble Fury, from Okinawa to Ie Shima and across surrounding waters. The Marines rapidly inserted via an air assault, defeated simulated adversary forces, secured the airfield, and established defensive positions around the island to enable follow-on operations in support of the navy including a HIMARS Rapid Infiltration mission under the cover of darkness. This exercise showcased survivability and lethality of the Navy and Marine Corps while operating in a distributed maritime environment.

U.S. reconnaissance Marines with the Maritime Raid Force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) exfiltrate towards a CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st MEU, during a simulated visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) mission aboard dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42). VBSS is a part of Maritime Interception Operations that aim to delay, disrupt, or destroy enemy forces or supplies in the maritime domain. Germantown, part of the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The America ARG, 31st MEU team remains the premier crisis response force in the region despite the unique challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Changes in Tech, Strategy Drive Missile Defense
South Korean service members fold a flag over a box containing the remains of a service member during a repatriation ceremony hosted by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, June 23, 2020. The purpose of the ceremony was to transfer the remains and commemorate the service of 147 fallen South Korean soldiers who fought alongside U.S. and United Nations forces during the Korean War. The efforts to return the remains are a part of the DPAA Korean War Identification Project, and includes remains unilaterally turned over by North Korea from 1990 to 1994, and in 2018. The remains were analyzed jointly by the DPAA laboratory and scientists with the Republic of Korea's Ministry of National Defense Agency for KIA Recovery and Identification (MAKRI). Chaplain Corps Provides Spiritual Service to 31st MEU, USS America at Sea
Lance Cpl. Kolby Leger, a communication strategy and operations Marine with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is baptized during an Easter service aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). Leger enlisted into the Marine Corps out of RSS Baton Rouge South following his graduation from Saint Amant High School in 2018. While underway, chaplains aboard the America host services of various religions and denominations for the Marines and Sailors on board. The Navy Chaplain Corps consists of over 800 chaplains from over 100 faith groups, meeting the needs of Marines and Sailors of different beliefs. America, flagship of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

U.S. Marines, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force begin Exercise Forest Light Western Army
