Boating School Knock-outs| Combat Engineers Earn Bridge Erection Boat Licenses
Combat engineers practice high speed maneuvers in bridge erection boats (BEBs) Jan. 29, 2019 at Naha Military Port. The Marines with Improved Ribbon Bridge Platoon, Bridge Company, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group are designated as BEB operators, who were tested on a series of maneuvers at the port in order to attain BEB licenses. BEBS are used to move and connect Improved Ribbon Bridge (IRB) bays, which is a tactical bridging system that can span across bodies of water greater than 100 meters. Tactical bridging, specifically wet-gap crossing, is a unique function within logistics combat element of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force and ensures mobility across rivers and waterways throughout the Indo-Pacific area of operations.

Marines with 2nd Platoon, Bulk Fuel Company, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, assembled several fuel sites across the CTA to enhance their training and readiness within a harsh environment. The Marines set up and maintained their bulk fuel equipment during a week-long training evolution. Pena, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, is a bulk fuel specialist with 2nd Plt., Bulk Fuel Co., 9th ESB, 3rd MLG. Loza-Machado, a native of San Bernardino, California, is a bulk fuel specialist with 2nd Plt., Bulk Fuel Co., 9th ESB, 3rd MLG.

Fuel Fires Prepare Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting for Any Situation
U.S. Marines with Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) use a hand line to extinguish a fuel fire Jan. 25, 2019 during live-burn training on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan. The training is held monthly to provide ARFF Marines with training scenarios to enhance their readiness to respond to any potential hazards or emergencies on the flight line. ARFF Marines entered the training area and used various hand lines, also known as a fire hose, to control and extinguish the fire.

Capabilities on display | 3rd Medical Battalion establishes Role II facilities
U.S. Navy corpsmen prepare the RadPRO X-ray machine during the capabilities display Nov. 27, 2018 at Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. The RadPRO is a portable machine that allows medical staff to conduct X-rays on injured service members after suffering injuries in the field. Sailors with 3rd Medical Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, established a Role II capabilities display to give service members the opportunity to view their deployable field facilities and employment. Role II facilities give Sailors the ability to offer ultrasound, X-ray, surgery and dental while providing a place for injured service members to be treated.

The fight for Tarawa: 75th anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific Theater of WWII
U.S. military members from Marine Forces Pacific Command, American officials and distinguished guests from partner nations gather for a memorial ceremony in Betio, Tarawa Atoll, Republic of Kiribati, Nov. 21, 2018. The ceremony marked the 75th anniversary of the landings in Betio that initiated the Battle of Tarawa; it was held to memorialize the shared sacrifice of all who fought there and showcase combined commitment to sustaining peace and stability in the Indo-pacific region.

31st MEU Takes the Lead of Joint-service Task Force in Response to Super Typhoon Yutu
Gunnery Sgt. Angel Ignacio, the battalion gunnery sergeant with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, catches a package of bottled water from a coastguardsman aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Washington (WPB-1331) while delivering food and supplies to citizens of Tinian, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands during relief efforts in the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu, Oct. 29, 2018. Ignacio, a communications chief, is a native of Guam, CNMI, which was also affected by Yutu. The Marines arrived on Tinian in the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu as part of the U.S. Defense Support of Civil Authorities here. The Marines arrived at the request of CNMI officials and the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist relief efforts in the wake of Yutu, the largest typhoon to ever hit a U.S. territory. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations across the Indo-Pacific region.

VMM-268 conducts trans-Pacific flight
An MV-22B Osprey assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 268 (VMM-268) stands parked on the flight line during a homecoming event for VMM-268, Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), Sept. 28, 2018. VMM-268 has been deployed to Australia for Marine Rotational Force Darwin for the past 6 months. During this rotation, they participated in numerous training exercises in and around Australia with various Indo-Pacific partners and allies. III Marine Expeditionary Forces in Hawaii are ready, capable, and relevant. The a trans-Pacific flights conducted by Marine Aircraft Group 24 have shrunk the theater significantly, allowing the Marine Corps to aggregate combat force in the western Pacific from Hawaii in a matter of days. U.S. Marine Corps Forces in Hawaii are now part of the strategic calculus in a ‘fight tonight’ scenario.

Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group Provides Air Support to CNMI Recovery Efforts
Personnel with the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) and U.S. service members from the Coast Guard and Navy depart. Personnel from FEMA were surveying damage caused by Typhoon Mangkhut and a contingent of U.S. military personnel remained on the island to clear debris. Service members from Indo-Pacific Command are providing Department of Defense support to FEMA and working with Guam and Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands' civil and local officials for typhoon recovery efforts.
