Since the Misawa Air Base runway remains closed for construction, the 35th Medical Group relied on solidified friendships among the Japanese community to help coordinate the evacuation at the Aomori Airport. KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea

A 13th Fighter Squadron pilot waits on his wingman before taxiing for takeoff at Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea, June 13, 2017. While in Korea, pilots practiced basic fighter maneuvering in air-to-air combat. This mission-set is different from the suppression of enemy air defenses exercises performed while in Alaska because an aircraft is the target rather than a grounded target. The ability to move forces and operate from locations across the Indo-Asia-Pacific theater is a key strength for Team Misawa and Pacific Air Forces as a whole. Share

HOFUKITA AIR BASE, Japan

Due to the runway being too short for the F-16 Fighting Falcon to take-off and land, the show was staged, meaning the jet launched from a different location than where the air show took place. The PACAF F-16 Demonstration Team is comprised of members from 13th Fighter Squadron, 14th FS and 35th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. The team includes one pilot, two narrators, one safety observer, a superintendent and a maintenance team composed of three crew chiefs and four specialists, responsible for the aircraft's avionics and electrical systems and engines. Breach bolts pulls the round into the rotor, pulling it forward so it can fire then pulls it back. This was a part of an 18-month inspection where they completely break down the M61A1 20mm Gatling Gun and rebuild it, repairing or replacing any components that have been damaged. Share

NE17 is Alaska’s premier joint training exercise designed to practice operations, techniques and procedures as well as enhance interoperability among the services. MCAS Iwakuni, Japan

Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, hosted the 41st Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force – MCAS Iwakuni Friendship Day, May 5, 2017. Since 1973, MCAS Iwakuni has held a single-day air show designed to foster positive relationships and offer an elevating experience that displays the communal support between the U.S. and Japan. The air show also encompassed various U.S. and Japanese static aircraft displays, aerial performances and demonstrations, food and entertainment. Share

A U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft assigned to the 120th Fighter Squadron (FS) takes off from Buckley Air Force Base, Colo., May, 1, 2017. Approximately 250 Airmen and 12 F-16 Fighting Falcons with the 120th FS, Colorado Air National Guard Base at Buckley are set to deploy in May to Kadena as the 120th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron in support of the U.S. Pacific Command Theater Security Package (TSP). These TSPs demonstrate the continuing U.S. commitment to stability and security in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. Share
