A U.S. Navy Sailor launches an F/A-18F Super Hornet from the ÒMighty ShrikesÓ of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) from the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). Nimitz is in U.S. 7th Fleet conducting routine operations. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Balikatan reinforces the relationship between the U.S. and Armed Forces of the Philippines by upholding steadfast beliefs of democratic values, enhancing mutual security and defense capabilities and working together to maintain a culture of equity, inclusion, dignity and respect. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations with the embarked 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serves as a ready-response force to defend peace and maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
