VMFA-121 Marines fly high in Misawa ATR
Marine Aircraft Group 12 forces deployed several F-35B Lightning ll's for a regularly scheduled aviation training relocation at Misawa Air Base, Japan, May 9, 2018. ATR's are designed to increase operational readiness and bilateral interoperability for both U.S. and Japanese forces. The MAG-12 ATR is a concrete example of the strength of the U.S.-Japan alliance - the foundation of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific for more than 50 years.

Secretary of Defense James Mattis delivers remarks during the U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM) change of command ceremony. Adm. Phil Davidson relieved Adm. Harry Harris as commander of USPACOM. During Mattis’ remarks, he stated the title of U.S. Pacific Command would change to the newly named U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. USPACOM is committed to enhancing stability in the Indo-Pacific region by promoting security cooperation, encouraging peaceful development, responding to contingencies, deterring aggression, and, when necessary, fighting to win.

Cobra Gold 18 | 1st MAW arrives to Thailand in support of CG18
U.S. Marines with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 466 ‘Wolfpack’ unload a CH-53E Super Stallion on the runway at U-Tapao International Airport, Kingdom of Thailand, Feb. 10, 2018. HMH-466 ‘Wolfpack’ arrive to the Kingdom of Thailand to participate in the 37th iteration of Cobra Gold as part of the U.S. Marine Corps Aviation Combat Element. The Super Stallion is assigned to HMH-466, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, currently forward deployed under the unit deployment program with MAG-36, 1st MAW, based out of Okinawa, Japan. Exercise Cobra Gold 2018 is an annual exercise conducted in the Kingdom of Thailand held from Feb. 13-23 with seven full participating nations.
