World War II veterans pay respect to fallen service members during a visit to the USS Arizona Memorial as part the 80th Anniversary Pearl Harbor Remembrance. Dec. 7, 2021, marks the 80th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor and Oahu. The U.S. military, State of Hawaii and National Park Service are hosting a series of remembrance events throughout the week to honor the courage and sacrifices of those who served throughout the Pacific Theater. Today, the U.S.-Japan Alliance is a cornerstone of peace and security in a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
JOINT BASE PEARL HARBORHICKAM, HI
Adm. Samuel Paparo, commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet, presents a relic from the USS Arizona (BB-39) to the crew of the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) in remembrance and commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The relic originates from a section of the superstructure of the Arizona that was removed from the ship when the Arizona Memorial was constructed. The Naval History and Heritage Command authorized the removal of sections of the relics for display and legacy enhancing purposes in 1994.

Airmen from the 556th Test and Evaluation Squadron preflight a MQ-9 Reaper at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, Oct. 4, 2021. The Reaper was flown from Marine Corps Base, Hawaii, during its participation in Exercise Ace Reaper. The purpose of ACE Reaper is to demonstrate the MQ-9’s capabilities and service members’ abilities to rapidly mobilize and integrate across multiple domains. The exercise also serves as an opportunity to train in a maritime environment and in a different airspace.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Juniper (WLB 201) return to Honolulu after completing a 45-day patrol in Oceania in support of Operation ‘Aiga, Oct. 1, 2021. The Juniper is a 225-foot Juniper-Class seagoing buoy tender home-ported in Honolulu, the crew is responsible for maintaining aids to navigation, performing maritime law enforcement, port, and coastal security, search and rescue and environmental protection.
