3d Law Enforcement Battalion Marines tested for combat readiness

Marines train for chemical attacks at Central Training Area, Camp Hansen, April 18, 2017. The battalion conducted a Marine Corps Combat Readiness Evaluation to test each company’s ability to execute tasks ranging from policing operations to police patrolling, route regulations, key leader engagements in towns and local population centers, security of key infrastructure, identity operations and law enforcement operations in an expeditionary environment, to ensure they are prepared to support the operational requirements of III Marine Expeditionary Force. The Marines are with Charlie Company, 3d LE Bn., III Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, III MEF.

Historic Pacific F-35 Symposium takes place in Hawaii

The symposium is a Pacific Air Forces-hosted event that brings together the four Pacific members of the F-35 program: Japan, Australia, the Republic of Korea and the U.S. While attending the event, senior officers, warfighters and F-35 experts discussed a range of topics related to integrating the F-35 into multilateral air operations in the Indo-Asia-Pacific. The U.S. currently flies the F-35B out of Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, and is scheduled to field two additional squadrons at Eielson AFB, Alaska, starting in 2020. Australia and Japan are already flying their own F-35s and the ROK is projected to receive its first in 2018.

Marine helicopters soar farther than before with auxiliary fuel tanks

A UH-1Y Venom leads the way for an AH-1Z Viper flying by Mount Fuji, Shizuoka, Japan, March 12, 2017. Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267 validated the long-range capability of the auxiliary fuel tanks on their H-1 platform helicopters by flying more than 314 nautical miles during one leg of the four-day operation, March 10. These aircrafts’ extended range is crucial to maintaining a stronger, more capable forward-deployed force in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. The Marines in the aircraft are with HMLA-267, currently assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force through the unit deployment program.
