A CAST tests an oxygen mask seal once fitted to an individual’s face. Aircrew flight equipment technicians care for all equipment pilots carry, as well as the equipment installed inside an aircraft. The day-to-day equipment pilots need, such as a helmet and harness receives inspections every day, while most of the equipment installed inside the jet can be inspected monthly or annually.

MV-22s take off in support of exercise KAMANDAG
Two MV-22 Ospreys with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 take off from Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, September 29, 2017, in support of exercise KAMANDAG. Bilateral exercises such as KAMANDAG increase the ability of the United States and the Philippines to rapidly respond and work together during real world terrorist or humanitarian crises, in order to accomplish the mission, support the local population and help mitigate human suffering. VMM-262 is assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. In preparation for KAMANDAG, the Ospreys served as transportation for 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade's joint humanitarian assistance survey team.

Bonhomme Richard Arrives in Sasebo, Concludes Four Month Deployment
Amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) prepares to pass Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force general purpose destroyer JS Kirisame (DD 104) on its return to Commander, U.S. Fleet Activities Sasebo Sept. 25, 2017. Bonhomme Richard returned following a four-month deployment in in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. Bonhomme Richard served as the flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group during the deployment, which was highlighted by the U.S.-Australia bilateral exercise Talisman Saber and several port visits in Australia resulting in enhanced interoperability and relations between the two allies.

RAT ensures bilateral training relocation kicks-off without delay
Airmen with the 35th Logistics Readiness Squadron load cargo onto a C-17 Globemaster III from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Sept. 25, 2017. The Tsuiki Air Base aviation training relocation focuses on training in different geographical locations and cultural environments, while strengthening U.S. and Japan interoperability and combat readiness. This is the first ATR located at Tsuiki AB since 2010.

Vipers, Growlers integrate, enhance joint SEAD readiness
Twelve U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons, assigned to the 35th Fighter Wing, taxi and take off at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Sept. 21, 2017. In addition to the 12 F-16s, U.S. Navy EA-18Gs pilots, assigned to the “Garudas” Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 134, flew with the 13 and 14th Fighter Squadron, to enhance readiness and understanding of how the two airframes operate hand-in-hand during real-world missions. The VAQ-134 is currently deployed to Misawa AB from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington, as part of a six-month Theater Security Package, which is designed to enhance regional security in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) arrives to Okinawa
The crew of Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) 10, assigned to Naval Beach Unit (NBU) 7, approaches the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as the ship transits to White Beach Naval Facility for a 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) offload. The ship’s arrival in Okinawa marks the end of the 31st MEU’s final deployment with Bonhomme Richard as the ship is scheduled to turn over duties with USS Wasp (LHD 1). Bonhomme Richard is the flagship of its expeditionary strike group, which is operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.

VMFA-121 helps prepare JASDF for F-35A

Several classes were conducted for JASDF personnel regarding maintenance, serviceability, operability and more. Afterwards, they briefly toured VMFA-121’s facility, taking a peek into a few shop departments and visiting the hangar to see, touch and study the aircraft up close. This is the first time VMFA-121 has conducted an exchange like this.

9/11 Memorial - Ronald Reagan Holds Patriot Day, POW/MIA Observance
Regional Technical Services Chief Richard Henderson, from the Commander, Navy Region Japan Fire Department, and Culinary Specialist 1st Class Zachary Brown, a chief select from Port Plain, N.Y., lay a wreath at the 9/11 Memorial at Fleet Activities (FLEACT) Yokosuka, following a remembrance ceremony marking the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. FLEACT Yokosuka provides, maintains, and operates base facilities and services in support of U.S. 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, 71 tenant commands, and 26,000 military and civilian personnel.

Rainfall maneuver
The Japan Air Self-Defense Force Blue Impulse assigned to the 4th Air Wing, 11th Squadron from Matsushima Air Base, Japan perform a rainfall maneuver during the Pacific Partners Air Festival at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Sept. 10, 2017. The rainfall consists of five Kawasaki T-4 planes that descend vertically and bloom in their own respective directions. This is an acrobatic flight that shows smoke trails spreading out in five different directions. T-4 is a middle class training aircraft used as an auxiliary aircraft in basic operational training and combat air wings in the JASDF.
