Bomber Airmen pay 80th anniversary tribute to volcano response
In this file photo, with the Mauna Kea volcano in the background, a B-52 Stratofortress from the 23rd Expeditionary Bomb Squadron, flies over the Mauna Loa volcano, Hawaii, on Dec. 28, 2015, during a training mission. Two B-52 aircrews currently assigned here as part of the U.S. Pacific Command's continuous bomber presence, conducted a bomber Airmen heritage flyby of the Mauna Loa volcano. The flyby was part of the 80th anniversary of the 23rd Bombardment Squadron using bombs to divert lava flow from the volcano that threatened the town of Hilo, Hawaii, in 1935.

Vigilant Ace 16: 25th AMU gets the ball rolling
Weapons load crew team Airmen from the 25th Aircraft Maintenance Unit prepare to load munitions onto A-10 Thunderbolt IIs during the Vigilant Ace 16 exercise on Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, Nov. 1, 2015. The munitions Airmen can load up to 16,000 pounds of mixed ordnance onto the A-10 airframe. The A-10 is powered by two General Electric TF34-GE-100 turbofan engines producing 9,065 pounds of thrust each, and the A-10 is capable of reaching speeds of 450 nautical miles per hour.

353rd SOG collaborates with 36th CRG to open Wake Island airfield

WAKE ISLAND AIRFIELD (July 20, 2015) - A combat controller from the 320th Special Tactics Squadron clears the first C-17 to land on Wake Island July 20, 2015 after it was hit by a typhoon. The special tactics team was the first to arrive to the island by military freefall jump from an MC-130H Combat Talon II. Members from the 353rd Special Operations Group worked with the 36th Contingency Response Group from Andersen Air Base, Guam, to open Wake Island air field after Typhoon Halola passed through the island.

Northern Edge 2015 battlespace, maximizes training capability
EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska (June 25, 2015) Live, virtual and constructive (LVC) participants from various U.S. military branches are tracked by the 353rd Combat Training Squadron as assets move into place in preparation for an Exercise Northern Edge scenario. The LVC system enables live participants like this U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon deployed to Alaska to directly engage and interact with virtual aviators operating from home station simulators, and contructive computer-generated forces to provide more robust training scenarios. Northern Edge 2015 is Alaska's premier joint training exercise designed to practice operations, tactics, techniques and procedures as well as enhance interoperability among thousands of Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen from active duty, reserve and National Guard units.
