Misawa, Japan

Soldiers with 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment, rehearse battle drills with the PATRIOT long-range, all-altitude, all-weather air defense system capable of countering tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and advanced aircrafts to enhance crew-drill proficiency during Keen Sword/Orient Shield 21 at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Oct. 28. KS/OS 21 is a joint expeditionary bilateral exercise, which allows Japan Self-Defense Forces and U.S. military forces to work together across a variety of areas, enhancing the interoperability of U.S. and Japan forces. JOINT BASE ELMENDORFRICHARDSON, Alaska

Alaska Army National Guardsman Col. Robert Kurtz recently stepped down as the State Aviation Officer for 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment upon retirement Sept. 30, 2020 at the Bryant Army Airfield. Kurtz flew into the ceremony aboard a UH-72 Lakota helicopter and was welcomed with a water cannon salute, the first time an AKNG Lakota has been used for the aviation tradition. He served the Alaska Army National Guard for five years, and was responsible for transforming the unit during an important transitionary period for Army aviators across the nation. He was awarded the federal and state Legion of Merit medals,, along with the coveted Master Aviator Badge, which requires at least 2,000 flight hours and 15 years of experience. Share

25th Combat Aviation Brigade Soldiers prepare to push out the aerial delivery using the free drop technique in support of four companies of the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team during Operation Lightning Strike field exercise. MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan

U.S. Marines with the Logistics Department Fuels Division fuel a KC-130J Hercules with Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron (VMGR) 152 utilizing the new Aircraft Direct Fueling System (ADFS) at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Oct. 19, 2017. The ADFS allows the aircraft to rotate crew, take on cargo or Marines and keep its engines running while accepting fuel. This training marked the first refueling evolution at the new hot refueling pit designed to distribute fuel to Type-4 aircraft such as the KC-130J Hercules, MV-22 Osprey and MH-60 helicopter. Share
