Andersen’s B-52 Assists in Search and Rescue
A B-52 Stratofortress from the 69th Expeditionary Bomber Squadron takes off from Andersen Air Force Base, Guam Aug. 13, 2019. The 69th EBS along with the U.S. Coast Guard and good samaritans aboard the Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue System (AMVER) vessel Isl Star, rescued eight mariners aboard the 60-foot Indonesian-flagged fishing vessel KM Aleluya (previously reported as Hallelujar) approximately 172 miles northwest of Palau.

Various U.S. aircraft flew to Avalon to showcase different capabilities and missions during the 2019 Australian International Aerospace & Defence Exposition and Airshow (AVALON 2019) which will be held Feb. 26 to March 3, 2019. AVALON 19 is the premier aerospace exhibition (airshow & tradeshow) in Australia; this year’s exhibition will be the 14th iteration since its inception in 1992. U.S. forces are participating in AVALON 19 to strengthen military-to-military ties with Australian allies while enhancing relationships with partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

The biennial, U.S. only, field-training exercise focuses on integration of joint training among the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. This is the seventh exercise in the Valiant Shield series that began in 2006.

Six passengers aboard a canoe were located in a joint search and rescue mission June 25, 2018, in the Pacific Ocean Southwest of Guam. Crew members flying a B-52H Stratofortress assigned to the 20th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron (EBS), stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB), La., and deployed to Andersen AFB, Guam, successfully located six passengers who had been missing for six days and relayed their location to the U.S. Coast Guard.
