USS Buffalo Visits Singapore during Indo-Asia-Pacific Deployment

In this file photos, Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Joshua Martin, assigned to the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Buffalo (SSN 715), renders a passing salute to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force submarine JS Hakuryu (SS 503) as the submarine arrives at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. While in port, the submarine's crew will conduct various training evolutions, continue to build positive relationships with the United States, and have the opportunity to enjoy the sights and culture of Hawaii.

Rim of the Pacific Participants Aid in Rescue of Downed Aircraft Survivors Off Kona Coast

Coast Guard crews safely deliver David McMahon and Sidney Uemoto to emergency medical personnel in Kona, Hawaii, July 15, 2016, following their rescue nine miles off Kona. They were both rescued by a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew following an expansive joint search by Navy, Royal New Zealand air force, U.S. Air Force and Coast Guard crews. They reportedly sustained only minor injures in the crash.

KAWAIHAE PIER, Hawaii (July 12, 2016) – U.S. Marine Sgt. Max T. Humphreys (center) discusses gear and personnel movement during the 2nd Royal Australian Regiment's arrival to port at the Kawaihae Pier, Hawaii, from the HMAS Canberra July 12, 2016. The soldiers and Marines are participating in Rim of the Pacific 2016, a multinational military exercise, from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands. RIMPAC helps the United States Marine Corps integrate joint and combined capabilities to conduct amphibious, offensive, defensive, and stability operations. Humphreys, a native of Pueblo, Colorado, is an embarkation specialist with Transportation Support Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 3, which supports III Marine Expeditionary Force.

U.S. and Chinese Navies Collaborate on Submarine Rescue Exercise

PACIFIC OCEAN (July 13, 2016) Sailors from the Chinese navy submarine rescue ship Changdao (867) retrieve an LR-7 submersible undersea rescue vehicle off the coast of Hawaii following a successful mating evolution between the LR-7 and a U.S. faux-NATO rescue seat laid by USNS Safeguard (T-ARS-50), during Rim of the Pacific 2016. The evolution was the final event and practical portion of a multinational submarine rescue exercise between seven countries.  Twenty-six nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 30 to Aug. 4, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2016 is the 25th exercise in the series that began in 1971.
