(July 21, 2016) Cmdr. John Cason (Left), an optomologist, and Capt. Sayjel Patel, an optomologist, both assigned to hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) and local Vietnamese optomologists perform eye surgery on a Vietnamese man aboard Mercy. Pacific Partnership and local Vietnamese doctors worked side-by-side during four different surgeries exchanging best practices, ideas and methods of treatment. Mercy is joined in Da Nang by JS Shimokita (LST-4002) and Vietnam People's Navy ship Khánh Hóa for Pacific Partnership. Partner nations are working side-by-side with organizations to conduct cooperative health engagements, community relation events and subject matter expert exchanges to better prepare for natural disaster or crisis.
