PACAF Band Revisits Sendai

The U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific-Asia perform to honor those who perished in the 2011 tsunami, at the Kabanomachi Elementary School gymnasium, on Aug. 11, 2024. A tsunami struck the eastern coast of Japan in the aftermath of a 9.0 earthquake on March 11, 2011, causing 19,759 deaths and severe damage, with the U.S. Department of Defense responding with a massive relief effort known as “Operation Tomodachi” to aid the affected citizens. The band participated in the mission, performing throughout affected areas to include Kabanomachi, and the band returned to perform again in 2024 to honor those lost in the disaster.
