Philippine, U.S. Troops to Hold Largest Ever Balikatan Exercise from April 11 to 28

Amphibious transport dock USS Anchorage (LPD 23) pulls into Subic Bay, Philippines to participate in Exercise Balikatan 2023 (BK23) April 10, 2023. Balikatan reinforces the relationship between the U.S. and Armed Forces of the Philippines by upholding steadfast beliefs of democratic values, enhancing mutual security and defense capabilities and working together to maintain a culture of equity, inclusion, dignity and respect. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations with the embarked 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serves as a ready-response force to defend peace and maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
