A contractor measures the depth of a shallow soil vapor monitoring site at Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF), Halawa, Hawaii, March 2, 2023. In coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency and Hawaii Department of Health, the Navy is installing monitoring wells at locations both on Red Hill and offsite to provide a more extensive groundwater monitoring network. Joint Task Force-Red Hill is currently in phase three of its five-phase defueling plan, where contractors and Navy technical experts will be completing repairs and upgrades which will ensure a safe and expeditious defueling of the RHBFSF.
