U.S. Indo-Pacific Forces Come Together: Valiant Shield 22
In this file photo, from left, USNS Sacagawea (T-AKE 2), USS Germantown (LSD 42), USNS John Ericsson (T-AO 194), USS Antietam (CG 54), USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), USS America (LHA 6), USS Shiloh (CG 67), USS New Orleans (LPD 18), and USS Comstock (LSD 45) steam in formation while E/A-18G Growlers, FA-18E Super Hornets and an E-2D Hawkeye from Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 fly over in support of Valiant Shield 2020. Valiant Shield is a U.S. only, biennial field training exercise (FTX) with a focus on integration of joint training in a blue-water environment among U.S. forces. This training enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land and in cyberspace in response to a range of mission areas.

31st MEU, America ARG conduct VBSS rehearsal in South China Sea
U.S. reconnaissance Marines with the Maritime Raid Force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) exfiltrate towards a CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st MEU, during a simulated visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) mission aboard dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42). VBSS is a part of Maritime Interception Operations that aim to delay, disrupt, or destroy enemy forces or supplies in the maritime domain. Germantown, part of the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The America ARG, 31st MEU team remains the premier crisis response force in the region despite the unique challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Senior military leaders from 29 countries participated in this year’s conference, which provides a forum for military leaders from throughout the region to address the mutual security challenges of today and tomorrow.

35th Maintenance Group named best in Air Force
U.S. Air Force and Koku-Jieitai personnel use an aerial bulk fuel delivery system during Aviation Training Relocation at Chitose Air Base, Japan Aug. 25, 2020. Partnering with Koku-Jieitai, the training took place with Airmen and aircraft across the Indo-Pacific from the 18th Wing, 374th Airlift Wing and 35th Fighter Wing, involving an estimated total of both six F-15 aircraft and six F-16 aircraft and approximately 200 personnel.
