Navy Joins the Nation in Mourning Loss of Former President, Sailor George H.W. Bush

Bush (CVN 77). The flag was flown at half-mast to honor the 41st president, George H.W. Bush, the ship’s namesake, who passed away Nov 30, 2018. The ship is in port in Norfolk, Virginia, conducting routine training exercises to maintain carrier readiness.

USS Green Bay departs Port Moresby after supporting APEC
A UH-1Y Huey helicopter, assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 469, prepares to land on the flight deck aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD 20) during a training evolution. Green Bay is in Port Moresby to assist with security efforts ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference and is the second U.S. ship to visit Port Moresby in the last two months. Green Bay is part of Amphibious Squadron 11 and is operating in the region to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.

An F/A-18 Super Hornet launches from the flight deck of the Navy's forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) during Keen Sword 19. The United Nations Command Honor Guard prepares to transfer caskets of remains onto waiting C-17 Globemaster IIIs as members of the 36th Fighter Squadron perform a missing man flyover at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, Aug. 1, 2018. Two C-17s left Osan AB for Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, where members of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency will attempt to identify the remains of the fallen heroes. The UNC repatriated 55 cases of remains from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

USS Chafee completes voyage repair availability in Singapore
The guided-missile destroyer USS Chafee (DDG 90), right, leads USS Stethem (DDG 63), the guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59) and USS Sampson (DDG 102) in formation. The ships are part of the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and USS Nimitz (CVN 68) Carrier Strike Groups and are underway and conducting operations in international waters as part of a three-carrier strike force exercise. The U.S. Pacific Fleet has patrolled the Indo-Pacific routinely for more than 70 years promoting regional security, stability and prosperity.

Nimitz Supports Operation Inherent Resolve
The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf (CG 72) patrol alongside each other, Oct. 20, 2017, in the Arabian Gulf. Nimitz is deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While in this region, the ship and strike group are conducting maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners, preserve freedom of navigation, and maintain the free flow of commerce.
